A student-led documentary about Wyoming women whose work connects livestock, rangelands, family, and the future of agriculture.

About the film
Grit & Grace brings audiences into working Wyoming landscapes to meet women raising cattle and sheep, moving goats across invasive-plant infestations, pairing working-ranch care with bird conservation, and carrying agricultural knowledge into the next generation.
Built around the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists and its October theme, Pastoralist Women, the film makes a global idea local. It invites viewers to see ranching, food, stewardship, entrepreneurship, collaboration and advocacy as connected parts of Wyoming agriculture.

From cattle in the Gros Ventre range and near Glendo to lambing sheep at the foot of Fossil Butte and targeted goat grazing in Sheridan County, each chapter reveals a different way people, animals, and land work together.
Cattle, enterprise & family trust
At The Little Jennie Ranch, Faith’s story follows the responsibility of carrying a working cattle ranch forward while creating direct-to-consumer and guest experiences rooted in Western stewardship. Her father, Mark Hamlin, adds the perspective of an advocate who shares how determined and dedicated Faith is in building a legacy.
Sheep, movement & five generations
Julian Land & Livestock reveals the scale and human rhythm of range sheep production. Trudi’s all-encompassing work keeps the ranch moving; Marie carries the operation and its public voice forward. Alison Crane of the Wyoming Wool Growers Association connects their family story to statewide advocacy.
Goats, partnerships & targeted grazing
With a herd of more than 200 goats, Jody uses targeted grazing as one part of Sheridan County Weed & Pest's work against the invasive plant, leafy spurge. Her story expands the idea of pastoralism beyond traditional ranching and shows livestock as active partners in land management.
Yearlings, birds & conservation partnerships
At Millikin Ranch, Lisa’s care for yearling cattle is connected to a conservation partnership that supports healthy rangelands and grassland birds. Cidney Handy, a Range Ecologist with Audubon Rockies, brings the Audubon Conservation Ranching perspective and explains how the ranch’s Motus station links working lands with bird-migration research.
Where it was filmed
The route crosses mountain cattle country near Bondurant, the sagebrush foothills around Kemmerer, Sheridan County’s targeted grazing sites, and Millikin Ranch near Glendo. Together, these places show that Wyoming agriculture is not one story or one practice.

The intention
The project gives Wyoming women room to explain their work in their own voices. It is designed to educate without flattening complex lives into slogans—and to create a new gathering place for agricultural producers, students, natural-resource agencies, and the broader community.
Community and conference screenings bring the film together with opportunities to connect with people and organizations working in agriculture, conservation, rangeland management, and education.
